Letter written at Goshen, N.Y. to Robert Fowler. "...permit me, however to inquire how our members stand as to our common pleas Judge. Whilst Van Duzen was at your place a petition was drawn up and handed to me to sign for Hill, and at the same time we presented to Benton, but he then refused observing (as an excuse) that he had pledged himself to Winfield. The reason I presume however was, he had not as yet had orders from the little and 'contemptable regency' consisting of four notable characters..."
